Bachelor of Communication Journalism at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Australia
This program is recognised as one of the premier journalism education programs in Australia. Through a combination of practical training and reflective learning, you will develop not only the skills needed to work in the print, television, radio or online news media, but also understand the theories and ethics which underpin modern journalism in the multi-media news environment. Through Communication and Contextual major courses, you will explore the broader communication theories and issues in journalism.
If you have an avid curiosity about the world, a passionate interest in news and current affairs, read, listen to and watch a wide range of news media, have strong writing skills, can work to a deadline under pressure, and have a burning desire to tell others what you find out, then journalism is for you.
This program has strong links with industry and delivers relevant knowledge and preparation for the fiercely competitive and constantly changing news media environment. Each member of staff has industry experience in their respective areas covering print, radio, television and online.
You will learn the fundamental skills required of today’s journalists across all news platforms through the program’s production courses. You will use these skills writing for the program’s newspaper The City Journal, and its news web site City Journal Online. You can take part in live radio bulletins for community radio station 3RRR and present live television news bulletins on Channel 31. In our internship course, you will further practise and develop your skills through a work placement in a print, online, radio or television newsroom.
