Communication Theory II . 3 crs. Advanced survey of contemporary theories of communication. Prereq.: COMC 202 or equivalent.

COMC 591. Communication Research Methods. 3 crs. Introduction to research methodologies in the investigation of communication problems.

COMC 601. Independent Study. 3 crs. Opportunity for students to engage in an independent program of reading under the supervision of a faculty member. Arrangements must be made in advance of registration.

COMC 700. Proseminar in Communication Theory and Research. 3crs. Descriptive and critical overview of the field of communication and its major theoretical and methodological research approaches. Historical treatment of communication theory. Critiquing theory. Nature of the knowledge enterprise. Prereq.: COMC 510 and COMC 591 or equivalents.

COMC 701. Quantitative Research Methods. 3 crs. Quantitative research methods and design in communication. Includes the use of statistics in experiments, surveys, and content analysis. Relationship between theory and research will be examined. Assumes knowledge of intermediate statistics.

COMC 702. Qualitative Research Methods. 3 crs. Qualitative research methods and design in communication. Includes the treatment of historical-critical, interpretive, ethnographic, and textual data. Relationship between theory and research will be examined.

COMC 705. Contemporary Issues in African American Communication . 3 crs. Examination of historical and contemporary issues, relating to communication studies.

COMC 715. Seminar in Nonverbal Communication. 3 crs. Critical analysis of theories and methodologies of nonverbal communications, along with development of research projects related to nonverbal behavior.

COMC 718. Seminar in Health Communication. 3 crs. Focus on the social, economic and political factors influencing African, Latino, Asian, and Native Americans’ beliefs and attitudes related to health and illness.

COMC 720. Diversity Issues in Organizational Communication. 3 crs. Critical review of diversity issues in contemporary theory, methodologies and analytical techniques related to organizational communication. Prereq.: COMC 620.
