PhD in Communication at North Carolina State University

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at NC State offers a new interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media (CRDM). Built on the premise that new developments in communication media and information technologies require a dramatic shift in instruction and research, this program integrates the study of oral, written, and visual modes of communication to focus on the human dimensions of information and communication technologies.

Students in this program work with a diverse and accomplished faculty from the departments of Communication and English, use the resources of a high-tech campus, and build relationships with Research Triangle organizations. A highlight of the program is its emphasis on professional preparation, including a course in digital pedagogy and a colloquium devoted to professional issues and practices.

Communication and Theatre Arts Major Requirements.
A major in Communication and Theatre Arts consists of 36 semester hours, including:

CATA 101 (Fundamentals of Communication),
3 hours of 100/200 workshop credit,
CATA 230 (Intro to Communication Studies),
CATA 261 (Media and Society),
CATA 321 & 421 (Junior and Senior Colloquium),
CATA 491 (Seminar in Freedom of Expression),
An independent study or internship and,
Acceptance of a senior portfolio.

Corporate Communication at Lycoming College

The major in Corporate Communication provides a foundation in organizational communication, marketing and management. This major is an interdisciplinary program, with emphasis placed on both oral and written communication in a corporate context. The major in Corporate Communication also provides students the opportunity to learn about marketing and management functions in both commercial and non-commercial organizations. This major provides students a basis for entry into a variety of occupations, including corporate communication, public relations, marketing, management, or corporate communication research and analysis.

All students majoring in Corporate Communication must complete the six Corporate Communication courses, the five additional required Business, Economics, and Accounting courses, and three elective courses. Additionally, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have declared a major in Corporate Communication are required to enroll in and successfully complete the non-credit Corporate Communication Colloquium during each semester they are on campus or until they have successfully completed at least four semesters of this non-credit course. All students in this major are encouraged to complete an internship before graduation.
