According to the rules of the Bologna-Process the 4-semester study programme is a consecutive course directed preferably towards graduates of the Media department. It builds on the interdisciplinary study done in line with the „Mittweida Model“. It has also been conceived for graduates of comparable training programmes from other universities. The graduates of the Masters programme will be qualified to engage in responsible tasks and to take up executive positions in the private and public communications sectors.

The programme is characterized by both research work and practice-oriented work. The programme is taught by the University’s own staff and by qualified scientists from other universities, as well as by experienced experts from the communications industry.

Through compulsory and elective media classes the graduate acquires in-depth subject and methods knowledge. The course of study allows students to concentrate on selected subject-areas of information and communication sciences and to gain individual competencies in design and development.

Individual courses of study within the Masters programme also provide specific research proficiency needed by the student when completing to development tasks, or for further education in a doctorate programme.

The specific objectives of the Second-level Degree Course in Public and International Communication Sciences, which falls within Class
67/S, Social and institutional communication studies, are
- acquire methodological skills suitable for the realization of communication products and promotional campaigns for institutes,
organisations and public and private companies, with particular emphasis on innovation;
- acquire methodological skills suitable for the management of communication flows in public companies and structures of complex
organisations;
- be able to perform executive, organisational and management duties on different levels within the public administration structures and
complex organisations;
- understand how to use new communication technology for the communicative management of public administration, private and public
organisations and the services sector;
- be able to speak and write at least one European language fluently, apart from Italian, with reference to set texts.

The course comprises:
in-depth study towards the acquisition of knowledge of the various fields of communication and information science, as well as the
application of research methods into institutional communication and the dynamics of organisational management;
laboratory work (primary not supplementary);
external activities (training, workshops, placements with public and private companies within the EU) and study residentials with both
Italian and foreign universities, as well as with scientifically highly-qualified laboratories.

Deepening the knowledge issues related to communication in its various nuances.

RECIPIENTS
In accordance with paragraph 1 of Article 17th of the Decree-Law No 74/2006 of 24 March, can apply for access to the course of study leading to the degree of master:
a) Holders of the licenciado degree or legal equivalent;
b) Holders of a foreign academic degree conferred higher following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State acceding to this process;
c) Holders of a degree higher than abroad that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the licenciado degree by the statutorily competent scientific body of the institution of higher education which wish to be admitted;
d) holders of a school curriculum, scientific or professional, that is recognized as attesting the capacity to achieve this cycle of studies by the statutorily competent scientific body of the institution of higher education which wish to be admitted.

Note: As provided for in paragraph 3 of Article 17 of Decree-Law above “The recognition referred to in b) d) of paragraph 1 has the effect only access to the course of study leading to the degree of master and not gives the holder the equivalence to the licenciado degree or the degree of recognition. “
