UG in Interpersonal & Public Communication at Mississippi College

The Interpersonal and Public Communication concentration is a great place to develop oral communication skills in a major that is rich in theory and application. The program combines the best of practical and theoretical approaches to education.

Interpersonal and Public Communication is a highly interdisciplinary concentration that prepares students for careers in public relations consulting, political campaign management and for graduate programs ranging from law school to seminary.

Students can also earn credit for participation in related activities such as the award-winning Speech and Debate Team; Pi Kappa Delta, the speech honor society; and Eta Pi Lambda, the communication honor society.

Communication  general Associate of Arts degree in Human Communication, along with coursework in Interpersonal Communication, Listening, Gender Studies, and Critical Thinking. The department also houses the college’s national award winning Speech and Debate team which is a member of the Northwest Forensics Conference, and the Phi Rho Pi and Pi Kappa Delta National Forensics Organizations.

Graduates of our program find jobs as writers, anchors, directors, disc jockeys, station managers, casting directors, producers, public relations managers, newspaper reporters, editors, media buyers, copy writers, and speech writers.

Graduates also find jobs in the business world as sales executives, managers, public information officers, and human resource managers.


Starting Salaries after completing the program (estimates only)

$35,000 to $50,000.

Strengths of the program

One of our biggest strengths is our faculty. In addition to their excellent academic preparation, our faculty has extensive professional experience.
Another strength is the superior facilities we offer. Our students have access to state-of-the-art digital video and audio editing labs, writing and layout labs, KSLU radio and the Southeastern Channel, a cable channel that has a three-parish viewership.
Our debate team was recently ranked second in the United States.
One of our majors has just been nominated for an Emmy award for a television show he produced for the Southeastern Channel.
