BA in communication at Jacksonville State University

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

The communication curriculum focuses on developing well-rounded communication professionals capable of interpreting and meeting the challenges of an exciting and dynamic industry. Communication professionals need a strong liberal arts background, education in media-related issues and “hands-on” skills to use with existing and evolving technologies.

Curriculum changes in recent years have increased the emphasis of providing students with instruction in areas such as media diversity, media technologies, media literacy (awareness), and statistical analysis techniques (survey research) that have become areas of high demand within media industries (such as the print and broadcast journalism, two of the three program sequences the department offers) and other professional fields (such as public relations, the third sequence the department offers) that communication majors commonly become a part of upon graduation. The below listings reflect requirements taken from the JSU Catalog 2007-2009, that new/incoming students must complete to earn a degree.
